The Risk of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus in a Russian Population Cohort According to Data from the HAPIEE Project

Abstract: The aim of this study is to investigate the 14-year risk of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) and develop a risk score for T2DM in the Siberian cohort. A random population sample (males/females, 45–69 years old) was examined at baseline in 2003–2005 (Health, Alcohol, and Psychosocial Factors in Eastern Europe (HAPIEE) project, n = 9360, Novosibirsk) and re-examined in 2006–2008 and 2015–2017. After excluding those with baseline T2DM, the final analysis included 7739 participants. The risk of incident T2DM during… Show more

“…Additional data increase the complexity of the analysis, but more data, especially linked data, are needed to provide better research results on associations between metabolic and other disorders. In this light, the era of machine learning and data mining can be an efficient tool to achieve more accurate patient-specific risk factor assessment and diagnosis [76,77], disease risk prediction [78][79][80][81], and appropriate drug selection for the patient's specific disease [82,83]. In the context of personalized medicine, patient-specific treatment should not only consider and evaluate average values [84].…”
