“…(b) Box plot of log-transformed, North American shale composite (NASC)-normalized REE values in the units of mol/L . For comparison, different types of water resources, including seawater (median value, n = 178) and river water (median value, n = 259), produced water (produced fluid in Southern Junggar Basin (China) ( n = 17), produced water in Wyoming (USA) ( n = 38), flowback in Wordford Basin (USA) ( n = 6)), and acid mine water from Brazil ( n = 3), China ( n = 25), and USA ( n = 27) , are shown in this figure. Variations in (c) europium anomaly (Eu/Eu*), (d) cerium anomaly (Ce/Ce*), and (e) ΣLREE/ΣHREE ratio at different sampling sites.…”

“…High concentrations (thousands of ppm) of REEs discovered in deep-sea mud in the Pacific Ocean make it another promising resource for REEs. , In groundwater, seawater, river water, and lake water, the median concentrations of total REEs (ΣREEs) were 0.427, 0.015, 0.139, and 0.710 μg/L, respectively . The total REEs in acid mine drainages (AMD) can exceed those in natural waters by several orders of magnitude, , despite low REE concentrations (a median of value 36.1 μg/L) reported in the literature . A nationwide study showed that concentrations of REEs in geothermal and produced waters in the United States are at least at the ng/L level .…”

“…The REE/CM depleted water is sent to the permitted discharge point, meeting applicable clean water standards as set by the relevant local, state, and federal agencies. Processes derived from the work of West Virginia University have been investigated by others such as Moraes et al investigating the role of A13-polymers in the neutralization process [46]. Moraes et al concluded that aluminum polymers play a role in the losses of REE to tailings in specific ranges of pH.…”

“…Uma excelente opção para reduzir os danos ao meio ambiente, agregando valor aos resíduos da mineração de urânio é a recuperação e separação dos ETR, a partir do efluente de drenagem ácida de mina, mas esse processo requer ainda mais estudos (LIMA, 2014;ALBERTI, 2017). A recuperação de ETR por essa via secundária poderia gerar capital, reduzindo assim, os custos dos tratamentos e ainda corroborar para o desenvolvimento econômico sustentável (MORAES et al, 2020).…”
