The Role of Cadherin 12 (CDH12) in the Peritoneal Fluid among Patients with Endometriosis and Endometriosis-Related Infertility

Abstract: Cadherin 12 (CDH 12) can play a role in the pathogenesis of endometriosis. The aim of this study was to compare the levels of cadherin 12 in the peritoneal fluid between women with and without endometriosis. This was a multicenter cross-sectional study. Eighty-two patients undergoing laparoscopic procedures were enrolled in the study. Cadherin 12 concentrations were determined using the enzyme-linked immunosorbent assay. The level of statistical significance was set at p < 0.05. No differences in cadherin 1… Show more

“…The cycle phase was calculated based on the last menstrual period and the average length of the menstrual cycle. Moreover, the phases of the menstrual cycle in women with and without endometriosis were determined by the histological dating of the eutopic endometrial samples collected simultaneously with pathological lesions [ 43 ].…”

“…A number of studies focused on the role of metalloproteinases, growth factors, cytokines, chemokines, miRNAs, and adhesion molecules. [47][48][49][50] Sundqvist et al investigated the expression of proteins involved in adhesion, attachment and invasion in samples collected from the eutopic and ectopic endometrium of 19 patients with endometriosis and 25 healthy controls: apolipoprotein E (ApoE), integrin β-2 (ITGB2), integrin β-7 (ITGB7), Laminin γ-1 (LAMC1), CD24 molecule (CD24), and junctional adhesion molecule-1 (JAM-1). The authors observed alterations in the expression of ApoE, JAM-1, LAMC1, CD24, and ITGB2 in different analyzed subgroups.…”

“…Non-specific symptoms of endometriosis often result in a disregard of the problem by patients and clinicians, which in turn is associated with a diagnostic delay of 7–9 years [ 7 , 8 ]. Therefore, many researchers are looking for reliable and non-invasive biomarkers for the disease [ 9 , 10 , 11 ].…”
