The role of carboxy-terminal cross-linking telopeptide of type I collagen, dual x-ray absorptiometry bone strain and Romberg test in a new osteoporotic fracture risk evaluation: A proposal from an observational study

Abstract: The consolidated way of diagnosing and treating osteoporosis in order to prevent fragility fractures has recently been questioned by some papers, which complained of overdiagnosis and consequent overtreatment of this pathology with underestimating other causes of the fragility fractures, like falls. A new clinical approach is proposed for identifying the subgroup of patients prone to fragility fractures. This retrospective observational study was conducted from January to June 2015 at the Nuclear Medicine-Bone … Show more

“…So, "non-responders" have less interconnections than "responders", both before and after drug therapy. An ANNs map with few connections seems to reflect a lower effect of TPD therapy, as indicated in literature [21].…”

“…This method of data mining is a new analytical process able to create a semantic connectivity map in which non-linear associations are preserved, connections schemes are explicated and the complex dynamics of adaptive interactions is captured. The AutoCM approach has been applied in recent years to the analysis of a growing number of different clinical diseases, demonstrating its value in identifying significant associations between clinical, serological and novel "omics" biomarkers [21,[36][37][38]. Therefore, ANNs could be a useful way to better understand the relationships between the numerous different variables that play a role in osteoporosis.…”

“…A new bone quality index has been recently developed, currently being validated, defined as bone strain index (BSI) [6,7], an index of bone strength, which appears to be promising in the characterisation of osteoporotic patients prone to fracture [8,9]. It is a representation of the internal vertebral strain calculated with finite element analysis.…”

“…Osteoporozun teşhisi için yapılmış çalışmalar olmakla birlikte bu çalışmalar genellikle hastalığın radyolojik ya da morfolojik teşhisi konularına yöneliktir (Ulivieri, 2018;Lee, 2018;Agnaldo, 2018). Osteoporozun teşhisinde olasılıksal yapay sinir ağlarının kullanılması ile geliştirilen herhangi bir çalışma bulunmaması çalışmanın özgün yanı olarak vurgulanabilmektedir.…”
