“…Notwithstanding, manual therapy should always be performed as carefully as possible, and, as a rule, with lower forces in the elderly, in order to minimize the net force applied in the manual intervention. 14 The intent of the case is not to preclude therapists from doing manual procedures like the one described herein, but rather to sensitize one to the possibility of such an occurrence and to encourage caution when applying similar techniques. Furthermore, patients' reports of pain should not be disregarded but rather be taken seriously, so as to help preclude similar nerve injuries.…”

“…Even the age of the patient may have contributed, as in the elderly, fear and anxiety related to manipulative therapy are more common. 14 The possibility of a preexisting narrow quadrilateral space 12 favoring the nerve lesion cannot be excluded, as imaging was not performed to evaluate the quadrilateral space before and after the insult. A limitation of our observation is that the facts were reconstructed according to the patient's report.…”

“…A recent article on the role of chiropractic in the care for older adults states, "As the number of older adults presenting to chiropractic practices increases it is imperative that the DC not only discuss the patient's current complaints, but also preventive strategies including fall prevention, nutritional counselling and physical activity." 125 These aspirations and values may have a profound impact on our aging world if implemented successfully in day-to-day health care practice. Doctors of chiropractic, many of whom take the time to listen to their patients and counsel them on healthy living, may play an important role in elder care for precisely those reasons.…”

“…General and older adult populations tend to visit chiropractors mostly for musculoskeletal complaints, especially neck and back pain 25,26 ; however, as individuals age, the likelihood of developing chronic conditions and disease that negatively impact QoL increases, illustrating the value of interventions such as chiropractic care that may improve QoL even when complete restoration of health has been commonly viewed as unlikely.…”
