The Role of Computer-Assisted Instruction in the Teaching of Probability

Abstract: ABSTRACT:This study aimed to analyze the role of computer-assisted instruction (CAI) on students' achievement concerning the subject of 'probability'. The experimental pre-and post-test with control group research design was carried out with 48 seventh grade students by conducting The Probability Achievement Test (PAT) to all groups. Data were analyzed by employing an analysis of covariance (ANCOVA) on post-test scores with a pre-test as the covariate and by calculating effect size values. The results revealed… Show more

“…The Nweke study used a quasiexperimental design with 25 students with computer learning hearing impairment from the education areas of Onitsha and Oka as samples. Gender also has a significant impact on the achievement and retention scores of students with hearing impairment who use CAI strategies and sign language teaching [9,10]. Yuchareon compared the effect of computer-aided teaching and traditional teaching on the training of nurse assistant students in the nursing of patients with a nasogastric tube.…”

“…In this context, the knowledge and teaching skills of the teacher, the ability to use appropriate teaching methods (Koparan & Kaleli-Yılmaz, 2015), the use of repetitions, their attitudes and behaviors toward students, and the way they deal with the student answers will have a significant effect on learning. In addition, lack of appropriate teaching materials (Gürbüz, 2006a), teacher-centered classroom environment (Yücel & Özkan, 2011), the teacher’s lack of knowledge and skills (Bulut, 2001) are among the important reasons for Probability to be perceived as difficult. Teacher competency requires both content knowledge and effective use of teaching methods and techniques (Ball, 1990; Shulman, 1986; Wilson et al, 1987).…”
