The Role of Delay and Connectivity in Throughput Reduction of Cooperative Decentralized Wireless Networks

Abstract: We proposed a multiple relay selection protocol for decentralized wireless networks. The proposed relays selection protocol aims to address three issues: (1) selecting relays within the coverage area of the source and destination to ensure that the relays are positioned one hop away from the destination, (2) ensuring that the best node (best relays with less distance and attenuation from the destination) access the channel first, and (3) ensuring that the proposed relays selection is collision-free. Our analys… Show more

“…In this way, the objective of this section is to describe state-of-the-art approaches that mainly deal with the relay selection procedures. Then, state-of-the-art selection schemes were classified into five categories, according to the criteria used for the relay selection: Link Quality Based [ 7 , 13 , 14 , 16 , 26 , 27 ], Link Quality and Energy Based [ 17 , 28 , 29 , 30 ], Link Quality and Neighborhood Based [ 15 , 21 ], Link Quality and Data Rate Based [ 31 , 32 ] and Random Relay Selection [ 22 ] ( Figure 2 ).…”

“…The selection criterion is one of the most relevant aspects when selecting the set of relays nodes. When selecting the cooperator nodes, many studies consider just quality estimators for this purpose, such as Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI), Channel State Information (CSI), Signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) or Link Quality Indicator (LQI) [ 7 , 13 , 14 , 15 , 16 , 17 ]. However, the consideration of just this type of quality estimators may generate inaccurate decisions [ 18 ].…”

“…One of the most suitable layers to deal with IoT healthbased WBSN system challenges is the physical layer. In the physical layer, there are many techniques which can enhance the network performance, such as modulations, channel coding, channel estimation, network coding, and virtual diversity [10,11]. In this paper, we are interested in the latter one (virtual diversity) because it is considered as a plug and play technique.…”

“…Although CT has some fundamental benefits compared to non-cooperative communication systems, it has undesirable features that affect communication. For example, when data is processed and transmitted using relays, some drawbacks occur, such as reduced BE [6], which increases the delay during communication [7]. In [8], analysis of BE for cooperative networks and the selection of the best relay node were investigated.…”
