“…Results replicated previous findings that IU robustly predicts anxiety symptoms beyond neuroticism (Boelen & Reijntjes, 2009), anxiety sensitivity (Boelen & Reijntjes, 2009;Carleton et al, 2010;Carleton, Sharpe, & Asmundson, 2007;Dugas, Gosselin, & Landouceur, 2001), fear of anxiety (Buhr & Dugas, 2009), metabeliefs about worry (de Bruin, Rassin, & Muris, 2007;Dugas et al, 2007), and positive and negative affectivity . Indeed, IU has been implicated as an important construct for anxiety (Carleton, Sharpe, et al, 2007;Holaway et al, 2006;Suárez et al, 2009;Taylor, 1999) and mood disorders (Boelen, Vrinssen, & van Tulder, 2010;Norton & Mehta, 2007;Norton, Sexton, Walker, & Norton, 2005;Yook, Kim, Suh, & Lee, 2010).…”

“…Only the fear of anxiety, however, predicted unique variance in GAD symptom severity when accounting for the effects of worry and the fear of other emotions. The relationship between fear of anxiety and generalized anxiety symptoms was also revealed in a 5-year prospective cohort study (Dugas et al 2012) and a laboratorybased manipulation of fear of anxiety led to corresponding changes in worry (Buhr and Dugas 2009). These findings may also indicate that fear of anxiety may be causally related to GAD symptoms.…”

“…Buhr and Dugas (2009) showed that subjects with experimentally elevated fear of anxiety showed higher levels of worry than did subjects whose fear of anxiety was reduced. Moreover, increased fear of anxiety in combination with intolerance of uncertainty produced even higher levels of worry.…”
