The Role of Infrastructure in Realizing Cultural Tourism in North Kalimantan: A Literature Review

Abstract

Cultural tourism has become a significant economic driver, especially in regions rich in cultural heritage, such as North Kalimantan. However, inadequate infrastructure remains a significant obstacle to fully utilizing the cultural tourism potential of this region. This article reviews existing literature to identify the key types of infrastructure necessary for supporting cultural tourism development. By focusing on the North Kalimantan region, this review discusses the impact of infrastructure on tourist experiences, highlights critical challenges such as geographical limitations and funding constraints, and explores opportunities for sustainable tourism development. The findings suggest that investments in transportation, accommodation, and cultural preservation infrastructure are essential to unlocking the region’s tourism potential and improving the overall tourist experience.
