Abstract: Several organisms are able to polycondensate tetraoxosilicic(IV) acid to form silicon (IV) dioxide using polycationic molecules. According to an earlier mechanistic proposal, these molecules undergo a phase‐separation and recent experimental evidence appears to confirm this model.
