The universe is composed of "order" and "chaos"-at least from the metaphorical perspective. Oddly enough, however, it is to this "metaphorical" universe that our nervous system appears to have adapted. -Peterson, 1999.Poised midway between the unvisualizable cosmic vastness of curved spacetime and the dubious, shadowy flickerings of charged quanta, we human beings, more like rainbows and mirages than like raindrops or boulders, are unpredictable self-writing poemsvague, metaphorical, ambiguous, and sometimes exceedingly beautiful. -Hofstadter, 2007 This thesis is dedicated to Raymond W. Gibbs Jr., author of Metaphor Wars (2017). Many issues addressed in this thesis came up in our fruitful conversations about metaphors. I would like to thank my advisor Thiago Sampaio for embarking on this journey with me and helping me out in all the many crossroads that I have encountered. Thiago has always encouraged me to study what I like, regardless of his own interests. That is something very rare in academia -this makes him a special person and a great advisor. Our passion for cognitive science made discussions and pursuit of knowledge very exciting. And we have an incredible group of students in his Lab -LAPROS -who I also would like to thank for sharing great moments of discussions and work together: Giovanna Rizzo, Thuany Teixeira, Fernando Sabatini, and everyone else. This work would not be possible without the support of an entire community in my University -from great employees (special thanks to Claudio Platero) to great professors (special thanks to Isabella Tardin). And thanks to the founding agency CNPq -Conselho Nacional de Desenvolvimento Científico e Tecnológico (140359/2018-4) for supporting my research. I would like to thank the Department of Linguistics and Santa Fe Institute for supporting me in taking the course "Complexity Interactive" in 2021.I would like to thank my beloved friends Letícia Kolberg and Nara Figueiredo, and my inspiring family members, Hélio Pedrini and Luiz Celso Gomes Júnior, for being so kind, understanding, and helpful.I was lucky enough to have great conversations with many generous scholars along the way. Thank you, professors
