The role of multi-parton interactions in doubly-heavy hadron production

Abstract: Beauty and charm quarks are ideal probes of pertubative Quantum Chromodymanics in proton–proton collisions, owing to their large masses. In this paper the role of multi-parton interactions in the production of doubly-heavy hadrons is studied using simulation samples generated with Pythia, a Monte Carlo event generator. Comparisons are made to the stand-alone generators BcVegPy and GenXicc. New methods of speeding up Pythia simulations for events containing heavy quarks are described, enabling the production of… Show more

“…Phenomenologically, the MPI effect plays a significant role in charm-quark production [42]. In the MPI picture, the average number of heavy-quark pairs in pp collision increases compared to the traditional pQCD picture of single hard scattering [43]. Along with the color reconnection model for J/ψ hadronization treatment, a significant enhancement of the J/ψ production cross-section [30] is predicted.…”

“…We have generated the data-set for 'soft-QCD = on' and 'hard-QCD = off' at different LHC energies. The framework of PYTHIA v8.3 is organized into three main parts: process level, parton level, and hadron level [48]. The hard-scattering process, which produces transient resonances, is represented at the process level.…”
