The role of oxygen vacancy in the photoluminescence property at room temperature of the CaTiO3

Abstract: In this paper, electron paramagnetic resonance, photoluminescence ͑PL͒ emission, and quantum mechanical calculations were used to observe and understand the structural order-disorder of CaTiO 3 , paying special attention to the role of oxygen vacancy. The PL phenomenon at room temperature of CaTiO 3 is directly influenced by the presence of oxygen vacancies that yield structural order-disorder. These oxygen vacancies bonded at Ti and/or Ca induce new electronic states inside the band gap. Ordered and disordere… Show more

“…As shown before, the band gap values of the GdOOH and Gd 2 O 3 samples were lower than those presented by Gd(OH) 3 . Studies on intermediate levels in band gap and structural order-disorder showed a decrease in the optical band gap according to the structural organization 41 . Our group has postulated that the PL intensity in inorganic oxides is also associated with the thermal treatment history, structural order-disorder, and electronic levels in the band gap 41,14 .…”

Our group has postulated that the PL intensity in inorganic oxides is also associated with the thermal treatment history, structural order-disorder, and electronic levels in the band gap 41,14 . Moreover, an earlier study has demonstrated the synthesis of rare-earth doped Gd 2 O 3 nanoparticles 42 .…”

“…From X-ray absorption spectroscopy technique (XAS), Milanez et al [33] For CaTiO 3 powders prepared by microwave assisted hydrothermal method, Moreira et al [35] observed that the distortion degree of (a) angle between [TiO 6 ] complex clusters is influenced by experimental conditions. Oliveira et al [31], also showed that distortion degree can also affected by doping elements, such as Cu 2þ ions, in the A-site of CaTiO 3 matrix.…”
