“…We have confirmed that plasma and serum do not differ significantly in their plasminogen content (3,4). In addition we have found that the formation of an in vitro thrombus is not associated with loss of plasminogen from the blood from which it is made, and direct measurement of the plasminogen content of thrombi suggests that serum trapped in its interstices may account for the small amount of plasminogen found.…”

“…This increase in lysis was accentuated if the plasma plasminogen was also high, but this cannot be due only to the plasminogen content of the plasma surrounding the thrombus since it occurred when the thrombi were incubated in urokinase alone. It has been suggested that plasminogen is adsorbed onto fibrin during clotting in an amount sufficient for subsequent lysis , but there is evidence against this hypothesis (Dudok de Wit 1962. We consider that the greater lysis of large thrombi is secondary to a relatively greater amount of serum, containing plasminogen, trapped in their fibrin interstices.…”

“…Congenital haemorrhagic diathesis has been observed in animals, especially in the dog (FIELD et al, 1946;HUTT et al, 1948;GRAHAM et al, 1949;LEWIS et al, 1951;ARCHER and BOWDEN, 1959;MUSTARD et al, 1960 and1962). ROWSELL et al (1960) described the occurrence of hemophilia in the dog and distinguished between hemophilia-A and hemophilia-B.…”
