The Role of Selected Trace Elements in Oxidoreductive Homeostasis in Patients with Thyroid Diseases

Abstract: Impaired levels of selenium (Se), zinc (Zn), copper (Cu), iron (Fe), manganese (Mn) and iodine (I) in the organism may adversely affect the thyroid endocrine system. These trace elements play a role in the fight against oxidative stress as components of enzymes. Oxidative–antioxidant imbalance is considered a possible factor in many pathological conditions, including various thyroid diseases. In the available literature, there are few scientific studies showing a direct correlation of the effect of supplementa… Show more

“…Mineral imbalances in the body can lead to various health problems through impediments to cellular events, including immune response and hormone release from cells [ 38 ]. Consequently, repeat breeders are likely to suffer from a temporary endocrine imbalance, resulting in ovulation failure, fertilization failure, or early embryonic loss [ 39 41 ]. Therefore, periodic monitoring of the mineral status of a herd is important to ensure the control of herd mineral balance.…”

“…Показано вплив макро та мікроелементів і їх кореляційних зв'язків на функцію ЩЗ. Іншими дослідниками виявлено і зворотну залежність впливу тиреоїдного статусу на мінеральний обмін [6][7][8].…”

“…This leads to prolonged cellular oxidative stress, potentially impairing cell communication and leading to apoptosis. Conversely, trace elements are beneficial, mitigating oxidative stress and participating in enzymatic and hormonal reactions (Wróblewski et al, 2023). Morocco, along with several other countries like the USA, various African nations, and India, contends with metal pollution resulting from its prevalent semi-arid climate in many regions, compounded by industrial contamination (Azdem et al, 2024;Azhari et al, 2022) Consequently, there's a noticeable risk to children, considering the observed rise in ASD cases in recent years (Neggers, 2014).…”
