The Role of Soluble Adhesion Molecules and Cytokines in Sudden Sensorineural Hearing Loss

Abstract: This study revealed no association concerning SSNHL and typical vascular risk factors such as lipids and fibrinogen. Soluble adhesion molecules were not elevated in the SSNHL group. The role of endothelial dysfunction represented by increased levels of soluble adhesion molecules in the pathogenesis of SSNHL remains unclear. Further studies are necessary to elucidate the vascular etiology of SSNHL.

“…Masuda et al [9] reported that the increase in neutrophil count was correlated with a poor prognosis for SSNHL patients. Studies performed with inflammatory cytokines, like TNF alpha, interleukin 6, and interleukin 10, demonstrated that these cytokines were not correlated with SSNHL [16,17] . Neutrophil-to-lymphocyte ratio (NLR) is calculated by dividing the neutrophil count obtained from the CBC analysis by the lymphocyte count.…”

“…Haubner et al (54) demonstrated that IL-6 concentration was not significantly different between 48 ISHL patients of various levels of HL and 35 control subjects, although no distinction were made between mild and severe ISHL. In the report, the IL-6 concentration not only from severe ISHL patients but also milder patients might counterbalance the increase of IL-6 in severe ISHL patients.…”
