The role of surgical trainees in overseas surgical missions

Abstract

We believe that surgeons participating in emergency surgical rota should undertake LC if adequately trained. In addition, it is a learning tool to improve on basic laparoscopic skills and may be a stepping stone to undertake advanced laparoscopic colorectal work for surgeons with that subspecialty interest. ConclusionLC is an index operation; it should remain in the domain of the general surgeon participating in emergency take. However, provisions should be always in place to seek specialist advice for more complex cases.
