The Role of the Retail Sector in the Taiwanese Macroeconomy

Abstract: Taiwan is one of the most dynamic economies in the region, driven largely by industrial manufacturing, and especially exports of electronics, such as semiconductors, machinery, and petrochemicals. This heavy dependence on exports exposes some volatility in the economy due to fluctuations in global demand, such as increasing competition with China.
