The reduction in prolactin production in the absence of adequate T4 (Chen & Meites, 1969;Matsuzaki, 1970) may partly explain why lactation can be enhanced by the administration of thyroactive substances in ruminants (Blaxter, Reineke, Crampton & Peterson, 1949). Além disso, o metabolismo corporal torna-se reduzido em animais hipotireóideos (Blaxter et al, 1949;Miller et al, 1974;Kennedy et al, 1977;Rumsey et al, 1990;Thrift et al, 1999a;Thrift et al, 1999b). Esses fatores citados favorecem a hipótese de maior ganho de peso nos animais hipotireóideos, mas não foi o que se observou no presente estudo, provavelmente por serem animais em crescimento e com bom potencial para ganho de peso, o que minimizou essas diferenças.…”
