The role of TiO2 nanoparticles on the topography and hydrophobicity of electrodeposited Ni-TiO2 composite coating

Abstract: Pure nickel and Ni-TiO 2 composite coatings were deposited on the copper substrate using Watts bath containing different contents of TiO 2 nanoparticles by the electrochemical deposition method, and the morphological alterations and hydrophobicity of coatings were studied. Field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) images proved that composite coatings exhibited a rougher structure than pure nickel coating. The results of the roughness measurement performed by AFM confirmed this fact. The water contac… Show more

“…The three-dimensional AFM of the SiO2-TiO2 films on a glass substrate in an area of 10 × 10 µm is shown in Figure 2. The formation of craters and elevations are visible along the topographic surface, which is attributed to the TiO2 nanoparticles [32]. Similar results were found by Widati et al (2019) using 0.015 and 0.030 molar of TiO2 exhibiting low NPs homogeneity over the surface [33].…”

“…The amplitude of the direct current and plating time, are the plating parameters that control the composition and thickness of the depositing layer [22,23]. The research on the impact of concentration and composition of Ni plating bath for electroplating AZ31 Mg increases the interest in electroplating of AZ31 Mg with various composites [24]. Further, the corrosion resistance of AZ31 Mg alloy was increased by electroplating at higher current densities in the nanoparticles suspended bath [25].…”
