Martello et al (2018) proposed that even the most robust bivalve shells would disintegrate completely in about 6.5 years, with some thinner-shelled species needing as little as 1 year. Many specimens are quickly destroyed, whereas those that do not disappear completely rapidly reach more degraded taphonomic scores, consistent with those expected in much older shells.…”
