Abstract:TheO-demethylation of lignin aromatics is a rate-limiting step in their bioconversion to high-value compounds. A recently discovered cytochrome P450 enzyme SyoA was found to demethylate the sinapyl alcohol-derived (S-lignin) aromatic syringol. In this work, we solved high-resolution X-ray crystal structures of SyoA in the substrate-free and substrate-bound states and evaluate the demethylation ofpara-substituted S-lignin aromatics via the monooxygenase pathway and peroxide shunt pathway. We found that SyoA dem… Show more

scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
