Abstract:Autonomy does not subvert existing safety processes, but they must be supplemented with methods that address autonomy's challenges, especially where perception and decision-making tasks are implemented with machine learning. We present an approach to address the safety of autonomous systems, building on and complementing established safety engineering methods.
Traditionally, safety-related systems, like aircraft, cars, and factory robots, have operated under human control or supervision. With autonomous system… Show more
scite is a Brooklyn-based organization that helps researchers better discover and understand research articles through Smart Citations–citations that display the context of the citation and describe whether the article provides supporting or contrasting evidence. scite is used by students and researchers from around the world and is funded in part by the National Science Foundation and the National Institute on Drug Abuse of the National Institutes of Health.
