The sea surface temperature configuration of Greenland Sea–subpolar region of North Atlantic and the summer rainfall anomaly in low‐latitude highlands of China

Abstract: Based on reanalysis and observational data sets, the present study reveals that the variability of summer rainfall in the low‐latitude highlands of China (CLLH) is significantly correlated to the sea surface temperature (SST) configuration from the Greenland Sea (GS) southeastwards to the subpolar region of North Atlantic (NASR). The SST configuration orientated in northwest–southeast direction exerts its impact on the summer rainfall coming into the CLLH via modifying the activity of cold air in the northeast… Show more

“…The associated latent heat release around the BOB is vital for the development and maintenance of the BEAP teleconnection. Because there are high mountains, such as the low‐latitude highlands of China (Cao et al, , , , ; Tao et al, ; Yang et al, ), along the propagation path of the BEAP teleconnection, the mechanical effects and thermal conditions of topography will modulate the BEAP teleconnection, which is the main difference between the BEAP and EAP or PJ teleconnection.…”

“…Low‐latitude highlands (LLHs) are areas located between 30°S and 30°N with an average altitude exceeding 1,500 m above sea level (Tao et al ., 2013; Cao et al ., 2014, 2018; Yuan et al ., 2018; Zhao et al ., 2020). The LLH in China, hereafter referred to as the CLLH, includes Yunnan, southern Sichuan, western Guizhou, and western Guanxi provinces.…”
