The Selection of Dry Port Location by Analytic Network Process Model: A Case Study of Dosso-Niger

Abstract: The aim of this paper is to select the best location for the construction of a dry port in Niger which is a land locked country (LLC). Niger is located in the Sahel and has a land area of 1,267,000 square kilometers [1], with the closest port being port of Cotonou in Benin. The transport corridor from Niamey to Cotonou is approximately 1036 km long [2]. It is estimated that this corridor carries about 40 percent of Niger's overseas trade traffic [3]. In this work, the Analytic Network Process (ANP) model is us… Show more

“…Social criteria assess the availability and skill level of the workforce, the policy that focuses on the policy of the country related to the chosen place and other criteria that change according to the context assessed in the article (Awad-Núñez et al, 2016;Bentaleb et al, 2016;Roso et al, 2015Roso et al, , 2015. Because of the multiple criteria of the location management problem, we noticed that most articles treated the location management of the dry port using hybrid approaches based on MCDM (multi-criteria decision making) methods like AHP, ELECTRE, Fuzzy ANP or MACBETH (Abdoulkarim et al, 2019;Bentaleb et al, 2016;Roso et al, 2015;.…”

“…Therefore, for solving this type of problem the MCDM methods, able to consider a large number of criteria, stand out in the literature. Some of the MCDM methods applied to locating the DP terminals, either alone or in combination with some other methods, in a conventional form or in the fuzzy environment, are: Analytical Network Process (ANP) [10,45,46], AHP [8,47], a combination of AHP and ELECTRE methods [48], a combination of CFA, MACBETH and PROMETHEE methods [49], etc. However, in most of these studies, the location of the DP terminal was done without considering the requirements and goals of different stakeholders.…”

“…On the other hand, the infrastructure criteria indirectly considered the environmental and economic sustainability of the DP locations. The criteria were defined based on an extensive review of the literature on locating the DP terminals using the MCDM methods [8,10,11,45,46,48,49,106]. An overview of the defined criteria and sub-criteria, as well as their description, are given in Table 2.…”
