The Semen of Fertile Black Males: Analysis of 100 Consecutive Cases

Abstract: The fertility potential of any male can be predicted through the evaluation of his semen. Over the years, it seems the figures of sperm density considered compatible with fertility have gradually been reducing. Macleod and Gold 1 and the American Fertility Society 2 recommended that sperm density of 20-40x10 6 /mL should be regarded as the minimum for fertility. These studies were conducted a long time ago and the data were on fertile males from the developed countries. In 1992, the World Health Organization (W… Show more

“…A relatively higher mean age of 36.8years and 34 years has been reported by other authors. 8,9 However, a mean age of 30years in concordance with our finding was observed by Jajoo S. et al 2 Male fertility usually peaks at around 35 years of age and declines after 45 years of age. 10 The changes associated with aging are moderate, but significant, although the capacity to fertilize is maintained.…”

“…higher as compared to value of 62.02% reported by Alemnji. 26,14 Sperm morphology along with motility and sperm count is also an important contributing factor in male fertility. The total number of morphologically normal spermatozoa in the ejaculate is of biological significance, the lower reference limit for normal sperm morphology is 4% as per the latest WHO guidelines.…”
