This study investigates the impact of renewable energy consumption and economic growth on environmental degradation in Somalia between the period 1990-2020. Econometric tools ARDL and Pairwise Granger Causality Test were used. A stationarity test was first carried out to ascertain the stationarity and all variables are all integrated of order (0) and (I). Results from the short term demonstrate a positive, significant relationship between renewable energy usage, oil price, and environmental deterioration, and a negative, significant relationship between foreign direct investment (FDI), population, and environmental degradation. More so, in the short term, there is a positive and insignificant relationship between economic growth and environmental degradation. while the long-run result revealed a positive, significant relationship between FDI, population, oil price, and environmental degradation, as well as a negative, significant relationship between the use of renewable energy, economic growth, and environmental degradation. Results indicate that renewable energy consumption is a key contributor to environmental degradation in both short and long-run periods in Somalia. The result from the Granger causality test revealed that there is unidirectional causality from EG to ED, REC to ED, ED to FDI, and FDI to EG of Somalia.

This research is focused on an in-depth analysis of the trade drivers that influence trade openness and their impact on carbon dioxide emissions, with a concentrated examination of emerging economies from 1995 to 2020. This examination is contextualized within the scope of various trade and environmental theoretical frameworks. In our analysis, we employed a range of advanced panel regression methods, including stepwise regression for model selection, as well as Fully Modified Ordinary Least Squares (FMOLS), Panel Ordinary Least Squares (Panel OLS), and Fixed Effects Model (FEM). The long-term patterns were evaluated using Johansen co-integration tests. Additionally, the study delves into the causal links between carbon dioxide emissions and the key drivers of trade, employing Granger causality tests for this purpose. Our findings disclose a complex web of relationships, both in the short and long term, between trade openness and carbon dioxide emissions, influenced by several key factors: (i) net inflows of foreign direct investment, (ii) trade reserves, (iii) per capita income, (iv) exchange rates, and (v) gross national savings.

The linkage between unemployment, inflation, GDP, and external debt spans several economic themes. Because unemployment remains a concern in the global economy, researchers and economists are focused on it. Other things being equal, it is widely acknowledged that achieving price stability will have a favorable impact on employment and economic growth, especially if the optimal threshold can be met. Meanwhile, the right balance remains elusive, as central banks around the world compete to increase employment while maintaining price stability. In this study, we analyze annualized data from 1991 to 2019 to try to understand how unemployment in Somalia responds to changes in the price level. To process the data collection, the ARDL model and the Bound test analytical tools were used. The parameter estimate implies that when the external debt changes by 1%, the jobless rate increases by 0.031%, according to the findings. GDP, on the other hand, had a negative but small impact on the unemployment rate, and was associated with a 0.59% decrease in the unemployment rate. We believe that, rather than depending simply on monetary targeting to balance unemployment, GDP, GDP deflator, and foreign debt, economic deepening can play a supporting role in sustaining an optimal inflation rate and a minimal unemployment level.
