“…The simian crease occurs just as frequently in this syndrome as in Mongolism, being found in about 60% of cases. Rathad, Morton and Scally (1964) reported an incidence of 52% in Mongols, 10% in other defectives, and 1% in normal controls. Davies and Smallpiece ( 1963) suggested that the simian crease should be regarded as an indicator of impaired foetal growth very early in embryonic life and that this impairment may continue to be manifest as a low birth weight or in maldevelopment.…”
