The singly-charged scalar singlet as the origin of neutrino masses

Abstract: We consider the generation of neutrino masses via a singly-charged scalar singlet. Under general assumptions we identify two distinct structures for the neutrino mass matrix. This yields a constraint for the antisymmetric Yukawa coupling of the singly-charged scalar singlet to two left-handed lepton doublets, irrespective of how the breaking of lepton-number conservation is achieved. The constraint disfavours large hierarchies among the Yukawa couplings. We study the implications for the phenomenology of lepto… Show more

“…We compared our results with previous literature on the phenomenology of the Zee model [33], the two-Higgs-doublet model [35,103] (Zee in the limit δ → 0), and the SM plus δ only [104] (Zee in the limit 2 → 0), finding agreement where there is an intersection, except for a typo in the shift of m W in [104].…”

“…Three single-field models contribute to C HD , and four to C the possibility in principle of discriminating between the different CDF-friendly single-field extensions of the SM. We note that model S 1 generates a negative contribution to C (due to the antisymmetry of the S 1 Yukawa matrix in flavour space [47,48]) whereas the data prefer a positive value, that Σ and Σ 1 generate positive contributions to C…”
