According to China's "Double First-class" construction, the first round of world-class university construction started in 2016, aiming to promote a number of high-level universities into the world first-class ranks, and accelerate the modernization of higher education governance system and governance capacity. By 2020, the first round of the construction has been completed. Whether the policy of world-class universities has achieved the above goals under the promotion of the central and local departments has become an issue of widespread concern in the society. Therefore, this paper collects the relevant data of the world-class universities in 2015 to 2020 and 42 international universities not affected by the policy. Based on the difference-in-difference model, the policy effect is evaluated from the perspective of the international academic influence of the universities. It is found that the policy of world-class universities has a significant role in promoting the international academic influence of universities, especially in the influence of high-level papers and citation.

This article outlines the trajectory of China’s higher education and its strategy of pioneering a brand-new smart e-learning environment that has functionally molded China into a hybrid educational hub. This paper chronicles the almanac of China’s offline campus education, depicting how it technologically evolved into an e-learning home-campus nexus. A sequential mixed-methods design was employed to shed light on students’ readiness levels toward China’s newly implemented smart e-learning platform for tertiary education. The psychometric analyses of the Smart e-Learning Questionnaire and other parametric statistical tests were performed using the Rasch measurement model. Overall, there is strong evidence to suggest that the in-depth qualitative interviews captured more nuanced accounts of the participants’ perceived reasons for their moderate level of readiness towards their novel home-campus e-learning course delivery. Evacuated campuses and virtual lessons have become the cliched representation of this pandemic. It is critical that e-learning offerings be contextualised in practical ways to invigorate equitable teaching strategies that can improve e-learning and support the success of China’s higher education learning model for the post-pandemic agendum. Implications for practice or policy: This research investigated home-campus e-learning as a higher education learning model for the post-pandemic agendum. The homebased smart e-learning prototype proposed in this study is framed as a learning delivery modality for advancing the latitude of digital literacy among higher education students. The deployment of the next-generation 5G internet connectivity and the implementation of hybrid smart e-learning platforms, draw clear implications for policymakers and practitioners to model after these insightful strategies.

Team Climate and Academic Aspiration of Chinese PhD students: The Mediating Roles of Research Engagement and Academic Adaptability

This study aims to examine the mediating roles of research engagement (RE) and academic adaptability (AD) on the relationship between team climate (TC) and academic aspiration (AS). Few studies are found in this field. A questionnaire research was conducted in Z university, a double first-class university with a complete range of doctoral disciplines in China. 419 valid online questionnaires were obtained, with an effective rate of 94.2%. ANOVA, a T-test and a chain mediation effect test were used to analyze data. The results show that the AS of the doctoral students in Z University is at middle level, and there is a significant difference in grades and major; TC positively predicts AS; RE and AD have a complete mediating effect on the positive impact of TC on AS, but have no chain mediating effect on the relationship between TC and AS. Suggestions are provided for improving doctoral students' AS and promoting their academic employment.
