The soft‐output principle—reminiscences and new developments

Abstract: SUMMARYA major breakthrough in digital communications was the provisioning of "soft" outputs at each processing stage, with appropriate capabilities to use this as soft inputs in the next processing stage. This allowed for much more performant receivers especially in difficult mobile radio channel conditions, and set the stage for iterative processing. This article will outline the development of soft output algorithms over the last two decades along with associated state-of-the-art applications and conclude w… Show more

“…Often, it is not possible to meet the required accuracy with a single radiolocation method. Therefore, several radiolocation methods should be combined via sensor fusion [20][21][22] in order to improve the positioning accuracy. Keeping in mind that a system can always be extended by assisting concepts, the system proposal should be understood as a single contribution concerning positioning, that can be combined with other radiolocation methods via sensor fusion.…”

“…In the field of navigation, soft information is exploited for sensor fusion [20]. This paper aims at obtaining soft information for the parameter estimates in order to improve the positioning accuracy before sensor fusion is applied.…”
