Abstract: We study the origin of the supersymmetry breaking induced by the mediation of gravity and the radion multiplet from the hidden to the visible brane in the context of the N = 2, D = 5 supergravity compactified on S 1 /Z 2 orbifolds. The soft supersymmetry breaking terms for scalar masses, trilinear scalar couplings and gaugino masses are calculated to leading order in the five-dimensional Newton's constant k 2 5 and the gravitino mass m 3/2 . These are finite and non-vanishing, with the scalar soft masses being… Show more

“…In (32) we tacitly assume that the Kähler function K V (ϕ, ϕ * ) of the observable fields can be expanded as K V (ϕ, ϕ * ) = ϕϕ * + ... so that the first terms yield canonical kinetic terms for the scalar fields ϕ . With k 2 5 appearing in front of the interactions above the dimensionality of the fields Ψ m , Ψ i is two, that is their mass dimension in the five-dimensional space-time, which implies their propagators are massless 8 .…”

“…The aforementioned scheme was exemplified in previous works [31,32], where observable fields were assumed to live on the visible brane interacting with the bulk gravity which mediates supersymmetry breaking which takes place at the hidden brane. It would be interesting to see if this mechanism can be generalized in such a way that is embedded in the framework of a higher dimensional supergravity theory and if so what are the consequences for the supersymmetry breaking scale and its implications for phenomenology.…”
