The solubility of sodium and potassium fluorides in strontium fluoride

Abstract: The phase diagram of the NaF-SrF 2 system was studied by thermal analysis and X-ray powder diffraction analysis with the determination of the chemical composition. The system was found to be of the eutectic type. The eutectic co-ordinates are 853• C, 32 mol % SrF 2 . A narrow range of the existence of solid solution Sr 1−x NaxF 2−x was established. The NaF solubility reaches a maximal value of x = 0.035 at eutectic temperature. The solubility of KF in SrF 2 is very low.

“…NaF is considered a very specific fluorinating agent. On the one hand, according to the literature data in some cases, the use of NaF leads to Sr 1- [35,36], NaF-RF 3 , and/or NaRF 4 (where R = rare earth) [37] formation in water-based coprecipitation method. On the other hand, in spite of the possibility of NaF-RF 3 and/or NaRF 4 formation, the synthesis of NaF-LaF 3 and/or NaLaF 4 is considered as a very specific task.…”

“…Various fluorinating agents (HF, NH 4 F, NaF, KF, NaHF 2 , KHF 2 ) can be used in the synthesis of luminophore powders. [34][35][36] This causes the sodium 37,38 and potassium 38 cations to be incorporated into the crystal lattice of strontium fluoride resulting in changes in the emission properties.…”
