The Solvolysis of 21-Hydrocortisone Esters and Hemiesters

Abstract: The 21-hemiester of hydrocortisone and succinic acid is hydrolyzed at faster rates in the neutral pH region than would be predicted from studies on specific hydrogen and hydroxyl ion catalysis. This can be attributed to either intramolecular catalyzed hydrolysis by the terminal carboxylate anion or by an enhanced rate of specific hydroxyl ion attack on the undissociated hemiester.No highly significant difference in hydrolysis of the hemiester anion by specific hydroxyl ion catalysis under comparable conditions… Show more
