The specific microbiological and clinical features of acute otitis media

Abstract: The objective of the present study was to elucidate the specific features of the clinical course of acute otitis media as well as the peculiarities of the vestibular function and the microbial paysage associated with this pathological condition under the present-day conditions. The study included 135 patients presenting with acute otitis media (AOM) at different stages of the disease. The discharge obtained from the tympanic cavity of all the patients was examined with the use of polymerase chain reaction in r… Show more

“…Taking into account that in children 3-7 years of age, vision has little effect on the parameters of stability, and up to 12-15 years, children are not able to carry out full vestibular-visual integration to maintain the stability of posture [6,29,30], we tend to consider the identified phenomenon of better stability of vertical posture in children with purulent otitis media under visual control, as a compensatory mechanism for maintaining balance against the background of latent vestibular dysfunction. Study limitations.…”

“…The social significance of AOM lies in the possibility of developing against its background various complications [4,5] and a negative impact on auditory function [6,7]. The main etiological factors and pathogenetic links of acute otitis media have been studied and are being studied: tubal dysfunction [8,9], the role of the microbial factor [10,11], disorders in the system of general and local immunity [12], pathology of the attic and morphological changes in the tissues of the mastoid process and snails [2,13]. The data of modern studies indicate the features of the clinical and pathogenetic course of acute otitis media with the threat of sensorineural hearing loss [2], latent mastoiditis [14], which are somewhat different from the classical approach.…”
