“…In Germany, the most frequently observed type of CHD in DS cases is AVSD (51.2%), followed by VSD (25.1%), TOF (6.7%), and ASD (8.9%)[ 7 ]. In Asia, VSD is the most common type of CHD associated with DS, accounting for 43%, followed by AVSD (15.4%), ASD (13.4%), and TOF (13.4%)[ 8 ]. The reasons for these regional differences remain unclear.…”

“…DS is linked to various chromosomal causes with morphological, biochemical, and physiological consequences (Alaama et al., 2015). In addition to intellectual disability and developmental delays, DS is associated with congenital cardiac abnormalities in more than 50% of newborns, an increased risk of both congenital and acquired thyroid disease, and a higher incidence of conditions such as hearing loss, diabetes, leukemia (Al‐Aama et al., 2012; AlAaraj et al., 2019; Bergström et al., 2016; Manickam et al., 2016), obesity, gastrointestinal disorders, and obstructive sleep apnea syndrome (Basil et al., 2016; Lagan et al., 2020; Saadah et al., 2012). Individuals with DS show varying levels of intellectual disability, and Alzheimer's disease is a significant concern among adults with the condition (Fortea et al., 2021).…”

“…Various types of congenital heart disease (CHD) are frequently diagnosed in children with DS, with an incidence of 40-50% [2]. A much higher prevalence of CHD, almost 86.8%, has been found in Saudi Arabia [3]. Cardiac comorbidities have a significant effect on morbidity and mortality outcomes of DS patients [4], and affect their quality of life [5].…”
