The stability investigation of compound Danshen injection (a traditional medicine) with a new high-performance liquid chromatography method

Abstract: Background:Compound Danshen injection (CDSI, a traditional medicine) is an effective drug for the treatment of cardiovascular and cerebrovascular diseases. However, the research about its stability is absent. Objective:A new high-performance liquid chromatography method was developed to assay its main effective constituents, i.e., propanoid acid (PA), protocatechuic aldehyde (PHA), salvianolic acid B (SAB), salvianolic acid A (SAA), and rosmarinic acid (RA). Through the newly found method, the stability of CDSI… Show more

“…The spectrum of the compound exhibits a pattern detected in specific members of caffeic acid oligomers, such as salvianolic acids. The pattern matches salvianolic acid A, in agreement with the already reported corresponding spectra [ 52 , 53 ]. The ethanol and ethanol-water extractions resulted in similar peak patterns to acetone and acetone-water extracts.…”

“…Although there is no evidence of clinical application of salvianolic acid A alone, Salvianolic acids for injection (SAI) is a clinical used medicinal preparation composed of multiple salvianolic acids from the aqueous extracts of Danshen. The concentration of Sal A in SAI is 72 μg/ml (Zhang et al, 2013). We estimated that the concentration of Sal A in the blood of a human body is about 0.65 μM with a recommended dosage of 20 ml/d via intravenous injection.…”
