The stain resistant effect of an ultraviolet curable coating material on denture base resin

Abstract: This study aimed to evaluate the effects of an ultraviolet (UV) curable coating material on denture base resin. The results of the three-point bending test showed no significant difference between treated and untreated specimens, suggesting that the UV curable coating material did not compromise the physical strength of denture base resin. The surface free energy measurement and the surface analysis with atomic force microscopy revealed superhydrophilicity and a regularly arranged structure on the coating surf… Show more

“…Detailed information on each method is provided in Table 3. Applying a UV-curable coating material is one of the effective measures in maintaining denture hygiene without altering the physical properties of the denture base resins [16]. For example, 2-methacryloyloxyethyl phosphorylcholine (MPC) polymer is a highly biocompatible hydrophilic coating material that is reported to be effective in preventing denture plaque and biofilm formation on polymethyl methacrylate (PMMA) [17].…”

“…The growing interest in this technology is related to its ecological and economic benefits, such as high process rates at room temperature, low volatile organic compound (VOC) emissions, and the use of solvent-free formulations [1][2][3][4]. The application areas of UV-curable materials include electronics [5], aerospace [6], packaging [7], and the wood industry [8], as well as medicine [9] and dentistry [10].…”
