“…Forest plots for studies on cases of total anomalous pulmonary venous connection, of rate of prenatally detected ventricular disproportion reported in eight primary studies and five case reports (a), increased area behind left atrium reported in 10 primary studies and four case reports (b) and vertical vein reported in 10 primary studies and three case reports (c). Only first author of each study is given.…”

“…Volpe et al 9 showed that 4D sonography with B‐flow imaging and STIC could clearly visualize the anomalous pulmonary venous confluence and the draining vertical vein in all 4 of their cases and made a conclusion that 4D sonography with B‐flow imaging and STIC is apparently able to facilitate identification of the anatomic features of total anomalous pulmonary venous connections. Lee et al 11 reported a case with a supracardiac total anomalous pulmonary venous connection and displayed the “starfish” sign for showing the vertical vein with B‐flow and STIC imaging. That appearance is a useful direct sign for diagnosis of total anomalous pulmonary venous connections.…”

“…Moreover, B-flow may have less signal dropout when the ultrasound beam is perpendicular to the vessel. B-flow imaging can provide important insight into abnormal vascular connections to the fetal heart, including total anomalous pulmonary venous return 47 (Fig. 5) and tortuous aorta in cases of coarctation of aorta 48 .…”
