The Structure of Dichlorobis(l-proline)zinc(II)

Abstract: The title complex was prepared at pH 4.0. The crystal and molecular structures have been determined by X-ray diffraction. The crystals of ZnCl2(C5H9NO2)2, F.W.=366.55, were orthorhombic: space group P212121, a=13.527(3), b=16.263(3), c=6.598(1) Å, U=1451.4(5) Å3, Z=4, Dm=1.67 g cm−3, Dx=1.68 g cm−3, and μ(Mo Kα)=21.2 cm−1. The zinc atom is coordinated in a tetrahedral geometry to two chlorine atoms and the two carboxyl oxygen atoms of two l-proline ligands. Each l-proline is coordinated as a monodentate ligand. “…And also some L-proline-based materials have been reported recently [15,16]. The title complex was prepared in water and the crystal structure was first reported by Yukawa et al [9], and the results were consistent with the analysis of the present work. In the present investigation we report on the synthesis and growth of DBLPZ from a mixed solvent of water and methanol and its characterization.…”

“…Amino acids have two or more types of coordination atoms and can act as various bridging ligands [7][8][9][10]. Taking advantage of the properties of the amino acid ligands, an amino acid complex was used as a ligand in order to synthesize a new heteronuclear complex.…”

“…The structure of this unit is not unique. On the contrary, it was found in many amino acid salts, such as the respective DL-alanine salt (Subha Nandhini et al 2002a) and dichloro-bis(glycine)-zinc dihydrate (Fleck et al 2008a), both L-and DL-proline zinc chloride (Yukawa et al 1985;Lutz and Bakker 2003), and the respective betaine and sarcosine salts (Chen and Mak 1991c;Subha Nandhini et al 2001b).…”

“…These phases both comprise the same unit that is found for the salts of glycine, DL-alanine, and DL-valine, i.e., a tetrahedron with two chloride anions and two monodentate amino acid zwitterions. The L-proline salt was first characterized by Yukawa et al (1985), later refined by Hoffmuller et al (1999); Anandha Babu and Ramasamy (2008) published optical and dielectric data on this species.…”
