The Study of Radius End Mills with TiB2 Coating When Milling a Nickel Alloy

Abstract: Nickel alloy high-speed processing technology using ball-end mills is characterized by high contact temperature and leads to accelerated tool wear. One of the effective ways to increase its reliability and service life is to modify the surface by applying functional antifriction layers in addition to wear-resistant coatings. Diamond-like carbon is often used as the latter. However, at cutting speed, when a cutting-edge temperature exceeding 650 °C is reached, the material of this coating reacts actively with o… Show more

“…Figure 5 shows the experimental setup for Shore A surface hardness, bending strength, impact energy, and thermal analysis of the weldments. To investigate the effects of ambient temperature on the mechanical properties of welded components, the specimens were placed in ten different ambient temperatures, i.e., 25,30,35,40,45,50, 55, 60, 65, and 70 • C. The X-ray spectroscopy (D8 ADVANCE, Bruker Inc., Billerica, MA, USA) was used to characterize the phase structure of the pure ABS, pure ABS, and weld joint of ABS/PC using X-ray radiation. After bending and impact, the fracture surfaces were investigated via a stereo OM (Quick Vision 404, Mitutoyo Inc., Tokyo, Japan) and FE-SEM (JEC3000-FC, JEOL Inc., Tokyo, Japan).…”

“…However, rare studies focus on the reliability of PC/ABS dissimilar polymer rods fabricated via RFW. Based on years of practical experience, the validity and reliability [24,25] of the frictionally welded components are related to the ambient temperatures significantly [26]. Therefore, the investigation of mechanical properties [27] of frictionally welded components at different environmental temperatures is an important research topic.…”

“…In a lubricated mechanical machine, materials with identical mechanical properties are usually not used in the entire cross-section of the elements constituting mechanical pairs. Important tribological properties depend on the properties and structure of the surface layers of the elements of mechanical pairs, the lubrication conditions of lubricants and the lubrication methods [1][2][3]. The development of technology has introduced new fabrication methods of surface layers and the improvement of existing solutions to increase anti-wear and anti-seize properties [4].…”

“…The problem of the intense wear of the cutting edge under increased mechanical and thermal loads during cutting is well known [1][2][3]. Many scientists have devoted their research to the effect of microtexturing on the performance and operational life of cutting tools [4,5].…”
