The sugar phosphate/phosphate exchanger family SLC37

Abstract: The solute-carrier (SLC) superfamily is divided into 55 different families of genes coding for integral membrane proteins, which transport not only all kinds of endogenous solute substrates, but also exogenous drugs and chemicals. The SLC37 transporters are members of the organophosphate:Pi antiporter family (OPA) and therefore they belong to the major facilitator superfamily (MFS). The SLC37 family members diverged early in evolution. SLC37A1 and SLC37A2 transporters are closely related and they have 57% of i… Show more

“…Mapping of the blb mutation identified an interval on chromosome 5 that includes Slc37a2, a solute carrier transporter (Figure 3A;STAR Methods;Chou and Mansfield, 2014;Chou et al, 2013;Pan et al, 2011;Olcese and Bartoloni, 2013). Both NY007 (blb t30301 ) and NI150 (blb t30913 ), two non-complementing blb alleles, have a point mutation in the slc37a2 locus that leads to a premature stop codon ( Figure 3A).…”

“…The SLC family is a member of the Major Facilitator Superfamily (MFS), which is mainly responsible for the transport of various carbohydrates, organic alcohols, and other substances in organisms [ 39 ]. Although more than 100 transporter families have been identified and classified, the SLC family is the second largest membrane protein family after G-protein-coupled receptors [ 40 ].…”
