“…Such condensation process may pull together the primitive TiO 2 particles into a larger mass by building up further oxide network. Similar phenomenon has been observed in the preparation of Au/TiO 2 [30] and Pt/TiO 2 [31]. Wang et al found that during the irradiation of a HAuCl 4 solution in the presence of TiO 2 colloid, the deposited Au clusters were localized on the surface of TiO 2 particles and the substrate part of Au/TiO 2 was larger than that of an individual TiO 2 before photodeposition [30].…”

“…For the purpose of curve fitting of Au 4f XPS spectra, the Au 4f 7/2 binding energy of Au 3+ was set to 85.9 eV, and that of Au 0 was set to 83.2–84.2 eV . In the Au 4f XPS spectra of TiO 2 /1Au, TiO 2 /5Au, and TiO 2 /10Au, Au 0 peaks were detected and attributed to metallic Au . For TiO 2 /1Au and TiO 2 /5Au, Au 3+ peaks were also detected.…”

“…The color of the TiO 2 particles after the second calcination turned to bluish-purple, different from the initial reddish-purple. The color of the nanosized particles depends on various factors such as particle size, filling ratio of the particles in a matrix, and dielectric constant of a matrix (8). The reflection spectrum for the modified TiO 2 indicated that the gold particles were not in direct contact with the TiO 2 surface but that they were instead covered with the nylon-11 oligomer, having a relatively low dielectric constant (9).…”
