The synthesis and characterization of 1,2-O-cyclohexylidene-4-aza-8-aminooctane and some of its transition metal complexes

Abstract: 1,2‐O‐Cyclohexylidene‐4‐aza‐8‐aminooctane (L) has been synthesized starting from 1‐chloro‐2,3‐O‐cyclohexylidene, which has been prepared by the reaction of epichlorohydrin with cyclohexanone. The complexes of this ligand with Co(II), Ni(II), Cu(II), and UO2(VI) salts were prepared. The structures of the ligand and its complexes are proposed based on elemental analyses, IR, UV‐vis, 1H, and 13C NMR spectra, magnetic susceptibility measurements, thermogravimetric analyses, and differential thermal analyses. © 200… Show more

“…O-H vibration bending normally expected in the 1410 cm )1 region, shifted downward and appeared as a broad band at 1380 cm )1 [25]. The 3500-3000 cm )1 region of the spectra of all complexes contains a broad band which may be due to the stretching frequencies of N-H and O-H [26]. At the same time, the bands, observed at $1095-1120, $955-1052 and $517-575 cm )1 assignable to N-N, C-O and C-S group bands, respectively.…”

“…At the same time, the band observed at 1660 cm -1 in the free ligand assigned to ν(NH 2 ) is shifted to lower frequencies (1650-1610 cm -1 ) after forming the complexes. This indicates that the primary and secondary amino groups are involved in complexation [22]. New absorptions at 1606-1559 and 1456-1455 cm -1 of the complexes indicate that the CH 3 COOgroup is coordinated to the metal ion.…”

“…The Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes are paramagnetic, and their magnetic susceptibility values are 5.22, 3.08, and 1.88 µ B , respectively. According to the results given in Tables 1-3, the distorted octahedral high-spin geometries for the Co(II), Ni(II), and Cu(II) complexes are proposed [18,21,22,[25][26][27]. The suggested structures of the complexes are shown below Since all metal complexes are paramagnetic, their 1 H NMR spectra could not be obtained.…”
