“…The details of the structured process and their implementation vary among SR approaches (1,5,16,20,25,52,54,62) but always include each of the following steps: (a) an explicit statement of the objectives including the formulation of a defined, focused, and answerable question or set of questions, along with a protocol for the SR; (b) the explicit prespecification of eligibility inclusion criteria; (c) an explicit and reproducible search methodology, including transparent and comprehensive literature search strategy or strategies, screening selection, and extraction; (d ) a structured critical assessment and statement of the findings and their validity; and (e) a structured and comprehensive presentation of the included studies and their findings, which may include quantitative processes such as meta-analysis of the data across the studies. Some, but not necessarily all, SRs include a sixth step in which the results of the SR are synthesized and interpreted with a conclusion statement (6) using various graphic, evidence-mapping, and other interpretive methods.…”
