The Telescopio San Pedro Mártir project

Abstract: The Telescopio San Pedro Mártir project intends to construct a 6.5m telescope to be installed at the Observatorio Astronómico Nacional in the Sierra San Pedro Mártir in northern Baja California, Mexico. The project is an association of Mexican institutions, lead by the Instituto Nacional de Astrofísica,Óptica y Electrónica and the Instituto de Astronomía at the Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México, in partnership with the Smithsonian Astrophysical Observatory and the University of Arizona's Department of As… Show more

“…However, little of the detailed methodology of the modeling has been described. We plan to perform error analysis for GMT and our next 6.5 m project (for Telescopio San Pedro Mártir [9]), applying knowledge gained on recent projects and fully documenting the models and results. This process will provide a roadmap for making further improvements in the low order accuracy of SCOTS.…”

“…The OAN currently hosts six telescopes at the mountaintop location, ranging in aperture from 2.1 m to 0.28 m. The Telescopio San Pedro Martir Project is developing a 6.5-m telescope for the site. [25]- [27] Many of the design concepts of this telescope are being incorporated into this project. The San Pedro Martir site has a superior astroclimate that has been well documented in the recent literature.…”
