The United States of America faces an increasing number of threats to its critical infrastructure due to cyber-attacks. With the constant advancement of technology and the interconnectedness of various systems, the vulnerabilities in the nation's infrastructure have become more pronounced. Cyber-attacks on critical infrastructure, such as power grids, transportation networks, and financial systems, pose a significant risk to national security and public safety. These attacks can disrupt essential services, cause economic losses, and potentially have severe consequences for the well-being of individuals and communities. The rise of cyber-terrorism is also a concern. Cyber-terrorists can exploit vulnerabilities in cyberspace to compromise infrastructure systems, causing chaos and panic among the population. The potential for destructive attacks on critical infrastructure is a pressing issue requiring constant attention and proactive measures.

The study argued that terrorism exhibited negative effect on the interaction between foreign direct investment (FDI) and tax revenue performance in Nigeria from 1987-2016. An econometric model was formulated and hierarchical regression analysis conducted. Jarque-Berra test indicated that the series are normally distributed meaning that the data were robust, appropriate and met goodness of fit standard. The results revealed that the interaction between FDI and Tax revenue performance (-75213.95 and probability 0.000) was negatively moderated by Terrorism with the Adjusted R2 0.9098 and F-stat 95.144. Recommendation was anchored on nationwide security improvement to increase tax returns, tax payment, and foreign investors’ confidence on investment in Nigeria.

Terörizm ekonomik, siyasi ve sosyal ölçekte ulusal riski artırmaktadır. Bireysel refah ve yaşam kalitesi üzerinde olumsuz bir etkiye sahiptir. Savunma harcamaları ülkelerin istikrarı, iç ve dış risklerden korunması ve güven için önemlidir. Ülkeler riskleri azaltmak ve refahı artırmak için savunmaya daha fazla harcama yapmaktadır. Bu çalışmada 1996-2019 verileri ile Türkiye'nin terör ve savunma harcamaları arasındaki ilişki incelenmiştir. Lee-Strazicich testi sonuçlarına göre değişkenler yapısal kırılmaya karşı duyarlıdır ve yapısal kırılmalarla birlikte birim kök içermektedir. ARDL sonuçlarına göre, terörizm ve savunma harcamaları arasındaki uzun dönemli ilişki negatif ve istatistiksel olarak anlamlıdır. Değişkenlerin kısa dönem analizi anlamlı bir sonuç vermemiştir. Araştırmamız savunma harcamalarının terör saldırılarını azalttığını ve etkili olduğunu göstermektedir. Ancak siyasi ya da askerî tedbirler terörizm olgusunu çözmek için tek başına yeterli değildir. İstikrar, terörle mücadelenin önemli bir parçasıdır. Terörle mücadelede sosyal, siyasal ve ekonomik politikalar çerçevesinde alınacak önlemlerin etkinliği sorunun çözümü açısından büyük önem taşımaktadır. Özellikle Türkiye gibi gelişmekte olan ülkelerin ekonomik kalkınmalarının önündeki en büyük engellerden birisinin de terör olayları ve terörün ülke ekonomilerine vermiş olduğu olumsuz etkiler olduğu görülmektedir. Ayrıca araştırma sonucunda Türkiye'nin terörle mücadelede ekonomik ve sosyal olarak zarar gördüğü ve terörle mücadele için savunma harcamalarına yatırım yapmak zorunda kaldığı sonucuna ulaşılmıştır. Bu araştırma, Türkiye'de terörizm ve savunma harcamaları arasındaki ilişkinin daha fazla incelenmesi gerektiği sonucuna varmaktadır.
