The thermal and economic characteristics of solar air collectors with different delta turbulators arrangement

Abstract: The benefits of using a solar air collector with different array delta turbulators absorber plate are experimentally investigated to assess this type of collector under western and middle of Iraq climate conditions. The solar collector was investigated with four different absorber plate in which flat plate, in‐line delta turbulators, staggered delta turbulators and inclined staggered delta turbulators with different mass airflow rate. The economic characteristics and overall thermal performance of the collecto… Show more

“…The temperature distribution of a compact heat sink (PCP) is lower than that of the plate heat sink. The main reason for that is the presence pins, which disrupt the thermal boundary layer and enhance the mixing of cold fluid flow through the channel of heat sinks . This means that CHSs produce preferable fluid mixing, leading to heat transfer enhancement across the heat sink compared with traditional heat sinks.…”

“…The same experimental setup of the SAHs was used as in our previous publication work and is shown in Figure . A schematic diagram of the constructed single‐flow solar air heater collector with top and side views of the system is shown in Figure A and B, respectively.…”

“…Figure A shows no recirculation flow in the channel of heat sink due to no presence of pins, which leads to no separation fluid along the unpinned heat sink. However, recirculation flow appears due to using pins producing a proper mixing between the cold water layers itself and with the hot surface of pins and the thickness of the boundary layer diminishes over the heat sinks, as shown in Figure B‐F. Further recirculation and a substantial separation are monitored for SSPs (Figure B) and SPs (Figure C) and lead to an enlargement pressure drop.…”
