The Triple-S framework: ensuring scalable, sustainable, and serviceable practices in educational technology

Abstract: Educational institutions are increasingly investing into digital delivery, acquiring new devices, and employing novel software and services. The rising costs associated with maintenance, in combination with increasing redundancy of older technologies, presents multiple challenges. While lesson content itself may not have changed, the educational landscape constantly evolves, where tertiary institutions are incorporating new modes of content delivery, hybrid-style learning, and interactive technologies. “…Students in our study also emphasized that AR can be used in supplementing self-study and exam revision, commensurate with research identifying benefits in its use to supplement learning material in health sciences and medicine [ 32 ]. Furthermore, medical museums are considered expensive facilities with high establishment and maintenance outlays [ 33 ], which not all medical schools can afford [ 34 ]. “…Blended learning, according to a few studies, can help with issues that were previously challenging to find answers to when using an online mode of instruction for sports, making its application that much simpler [24,56,57]. The primary objective of blended education is to facilitate the development of students into individuals who possess the ability to engage in continuous learning and enhance their competencies and passions [19][20][21]. Multiple investigations have indicated that fulltime online learners exhibit considerably lower rates of school and extracurricular club participation compared to blended learners [22][23][24].…”

“…The blended learning model is distinguished by the concurrent integration of facetoface and online training [17,18]. To optimize students' longterm productivity and efficiency, this educational approach prioritizes the provision of opportunities for selfdirected and sustainable learning [19][20][21]. Recent study findings have revealed that students who only participated in online education exhibited notably diminished levels of engagement in extracurricular pursuits and school when compared to their peers who were enrolled in a blended learning approach [22][23][24].…”
