“…In addition to Asparagus officinalis and Leucojum spp., members of tbe Liliaceae and Gramineae contain botb isokestose and neokestose (Darbysbire & Henry, 1978a;Sbiomi et al, 1976;Bacon, 1959), and some grasses also contain traces of kestose (Bacon, 1959). Tbe bigber oligosaccbarides from sucb plants may also occur as multiple series.…”

“…Tbe bigber oligosaccbarides from sucb plants may also occur as multiple series. Bacon (1959) suggested tbat individual size classes of fructans from Lolium perenne and Allium cepa could be resolved into multiple forms by cbarcoal/celite column cbromatograpby and, in Lolium temulentum, separation by thin layer cbromatograpby (TLC) indicates tbe presence of two oligosaccbaride series, one apparently based upon isokestose and tbe otber unidentified (Pollock, 1982a). Tbe bigb molecular weight polymer from L. temulentum does not contain tbe [i-\,2 linkages cbaracteristic of tbe isokestose series (C. J. Pollock & R. Horgan, unpublisbed observations) but the range of size over wbicb botb series are found bas not been determined.…”

“…Fructose-ohgomers (fructo-oligosaccharides (DP 3-c. 10)) together with glucose, fructose and sucrose are contained in onion, which is one of the most widely distributed liliaceous plants in the world (Bacon, 1957(Bacon, , 1959Bose & Shrivastava, 1961;Darbyshire & Henry, 1978). The distribution of fructo-oligosaccharides in onion leaf-bases has been studied, and fructo-oligosaccharide contents were found to be higher in younger leaf-bases (inner) than in older (outer) leaf-bases (Bacon, 1959;Darbyshire & Henry, 1978).…”

“…4) (Bacon, 1959;Boscher, 1969), tandis que le galactose et le xylose ont été identifiés dans certains glycosides (Starke et Herrmann, 1976;Harmatha et al, 1987). Le saccharose est connu comme étant très stimulant, de même que, à un degré moindre, le glucose et le fructose (Bernays et Simpson, 1982;Ladd, 1986 (House, 1974).…”
